Women’s World Cup: the Italians beaten 3

On the second day of the Sitting Volleyball World Championships which are taking place in the city of Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the women’s national team was defeated 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-12, 25-21) by Brazil. Italy, led by coach Amauri Ribeiro, will return to the field tonight at 7.45 pm, again inside the Hotel Hills, to face Germany in the last match of pool C.

Returning to today’s match, the start was characterized by a substantial balance and the two teams battled point to point. As the actions continued, however, it was Brazil that broke the balance and found a good margin of advantage (11-7). The blues struggled to keep up the pace (20-13) and the opponents won the first set (25-17).

In the second fraction, however, it was the blue who approached the field with decision. Italy with grit and determination ran forward, showing a good game (14-11). The green-gold team tried to recover, but it was Italy again that increased the pace and pushed to +3 (19-16). At the end of the set Bosio and his teammates controlled the situation and were able to close and bring the set score back in a draw (25-23).

Upon returning to the field, this time it is Brazil to impose their game at the start of the set. De Lima Silva and her companions increased the pace with the passing of the minutes (12-5) and took advantage of some difficult moments of the tricolor national team. Italy tried to shorten the distance, but the girls of coach Guimaraes continued with a brisk pace and conquered the third set (25-12).

Balanced the start of the fourth set (4-4). As the actions continued, Brazil took the lead (8-5). With great tenacity, however, Italy tried to stay hooked to the game by responding to opponents’ attacks and drawing the score (18-18). In the final, however, Brazil extended and closed the set and the game (25-21).

The formula
The 13 teams were divided into 3 pools (Pool A with 5 national teams, Pool B and C with 4). The groups will be played according to the round robin formula. The winners of each group will qualify directly to the quarter-finals, while the remaining 10 teams (from 2nd to 4th place in Pool B and C, from 2nd to 5th place in Pool A) will face each other in 5 play-offs that will place the last places available for the quarter-finals are up for grabs. Semifinals and finals will follow.
