The Liberal Party asked the Superior Electoral Court to annul the results of the second round of the elections on October 30 due to an alleged malfunction of the electronic ballot boxes.
According to Jair Bolsonaro’s party, there were 279,300 electronic voting machines used in the second round of the election that “presented chronic problems of irreparable non-compliance in their operation.”
The presentation was made by the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, at a press conference in Brasilia where he said: “This report does not express the opinion of the Liberal Party. But it is the result of studies prepared by specialists graduated from one of the most respected in the world and which, in our opinion, should be analyzed by TSE specialists”.
Bolsonaro’s party considers requesting the annulment of the elections
For Costa Neto “it is necessary to “guarantee and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, with a single objective: to strengthen democracy to strengthen Brazil.” The basis of the claim is that in teams that do not present problems, Bolsonaro would have had 51.05 % of the valid votes, against 48.95% of the elected president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva when in the final result, the petista obtained 50.9% of the votes and the president 49.1%.
As LPO anticipated, the Liberal Party is divided, while one sector presses to negotiate and agree with Lula, another seeks to deepen the radicalized opposition of Bolsonarismo and question the legitimacy of the new government. In that balance, the president of the PL decided to lean on his hard wing.
A source who knows the inmate closely assured LPO that “the PL runs the risk of closing with Lula. Marcel is organizing himself in case Waldemar gets on Lula’s boat so that the Bolsonaristas go to court to request the mandate and eventually go to the new one”.
Now the Brazilian Ministry of Defense says that the military report does not rule out fraud and Lula explodes: “It is humiliating”
The Minister of Defense also subscribes to the theory of fraud, a version that he corroborated with the presentation of the self-scrutiny report two weeks ago. However, neither the Attorney General of the Republic chaired by Augusto Aras nor any transparency body considers that there is no concrete fact in that report that justifies the opening of an investigation into electronic voting machines.
The Armed Forces were more ambiguous, they did not confirm their support for the irregularities denounced by the ministry that unites them, but they did not deny it either. In addition, the population that mobilized to the barracks to request a coup that prevents the assumption of Lula on January 1st expressed their support.
Faced with this situation, the head of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, gave Bolsonaro 24 hours to present the details of the irregularities and warned him that the same ballot boxes indicated were used on October 2, so they must also be questioned.
