Discovering some of the best places in Brazil

Brazil is a country as beautiful as it is vast. Really, almost a continent that is impossible to get to know deeply unless you have months to travel it as slowly as possible. For this reason, it is better to make somewhat shorter and more concentrated trips, to discover somewhat less extensive areas through which you can move freely and enjoy the wonders they offer. Some of the best places to visit in Brazil are Rio de Janeiro, Iguazú Falls, Salvador de Bahía, and the natural areas of Lençois Maranhenses and Chapada dos Veadeiros. Combining these five sites, you will find a bit of everything: vibrant cities, gastronomy, beaches, green fields, forests, mountains and some of the most impressive waterfalls in the world.

The cities of Rio and Salvador are among the best known in Brazil, both for their good vibes and for their monuments and history. Iguazú Falls is perhaps one of the most impressive natural wonders on the planet; while Lençois Maranhenses and Chapada dos Veadeiros are two places of exuberant beauty that surprise all travelers who enter them.

There are not a few who say that the city of Salvador de Bahia has the honor of being the heart of Brazil.

The former capital of the country presents, today, an authentic mixture of cultures, rhythms and flavors that attracts travelers from all over the world.

A clear example of this is the Carnival of Salvador de Bahía, which is as famous and visited as those of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

The historic center of Salvador de Bahia has jewels such as Pelourinho, a colorful and vibrant neighborhood that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, due to its beauty and long history.

Today, a rehabilitated Pelourinho has dance and music schools, art centers, countless beautiful churches – there are more than 350 in Salvador – and magnificent restaurants where you can try the tasty Bahian cuisine.

Among the dishes from Bahia, it is worth highlighting the moqueca – of African origin -, the acarajé – a cookie made with fried bean dough, onion and salt, and fried in palm oil -, the hauçá rice – rice without salt and cooked, accompanied of a sauce of pepper, onion, grated prawns and dried meat fried with garlic and onion – and the student bolinhoa cookie made with granulated tapioca, grated coconut, cinnamon and sugar.

To try the best acarajé you should visit the bohemian neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, always full of life, especially after sunset.

A sunset that we should enjoy from the sand of the crowded urban beach of Porto da Barra. It is exciting when the king star hides behind the waters of the ocean and people burst into applause.
