Brazil | The State of Paraná wins second place in the national ranking of Smart Cities

The study methodology encompasses 75 indicators on 11 thematic axes: mobility, urban planning, environment, energy, technology and innovation, economy, education, health, security, entrepreneurship and governance.

The publication shows the state next to Minas Gerais, and behind only São Paulo, which has 37 municipalities on the list.

The smart cities of Paraná are Curitiba (3rd), Maringá (25th), Londrina (34th), Apucarana (41st), Foz do Iguaçu (44th), Cascavel (50th), Pato Branco (66th) , Pinhais (74°) and Toledo (98°).

Joinville, the “Best City” in Brazil

The ranking considers public data from 5,565 Brazilian municipalities and evaluates various aspects of quality of life; this year, the city of Joinville took the lead in the General and Large categories, with 281 points.

La also won the Sebrae award with the “Joinville for People” project, which includes, among other factors, economic development and well-being. Joinville was the champion city in the Best Cities of Brazil 2022 ranking, an initiative of the magazine “Isto É ”.

According to the publication, Joinville ranked first overall and also topped the list of large cities, thus receiving the title of Best City in Brazil.

“This achievement is the result of the effort and dedication of our committed team of servers, a team that measures no efforts to offer a city of excellence to the inhabitants of Joinville”, highlights Mayor Adriano Silva.

The ranking of the Best Cities in Brazil is an initiative of Editora Três and Austin Rating. The list considers public data from 5,565 Brazilian municipalities and is divided into four categories: General, Large, Medium and Small. With the first places in the General and Large categories, with 281 points, Joinville was the absolute winner of the ranking.

In the article “Joinville, the portrait of a champion city”, the publication highlights various characteristics of the city, such as the focus on people and culture, with an emphasis on the Bolshoi Theater School of Brazil and the Dance Festival.

The Brazilian city is also considered a Model in Territorial Marketing and Business Leadership, after winning the award promoted by Sebrae.

The city won with the “Joinville for People” project, which includes actions such as incentives for entrepreneurs, revitalization of public spaces, laws, promotion of events and articulation of the city’s forces for economic development and well-being. This was the 11th edition of the Prefeito Emprendedor award, in Santa Catarina.

From the Health aspect, “Joinvasc” stood out, a public stroke treatment program in Joinville. It was the 2021 VBHVC (Value-Based Health Care) Award champion, being chosen as the best global Value in Health program that year.

In addition to the main prize, Joinvasc was also the winner in the category open to the community, obtaining more than 55% of the votes received in the popular vote.

The Value-Based Healthcare Award is organized by the Decision Institute, the Netherlands. Companhia Águas de Joinville also won the Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure 2021, in the Water, Sewerage and Drainage Systems category, with the Hydraulic Simulation project. The only representative from Brazil, the Joinville sanitation company was the champion in one of the 19 categories of the contest, competing with nearly 300 projects submitted by 230 organizations from 45 countries.

Joinville was also ranked third overall in the Smart Connected Cities Ranking 2021, on the economy axis.

Florianópolis wins place in Mobility, Economy and Education

However, in the Smart Connected Cities 2021 ranking, Florianopolis is today a reference in mobility, economy and education. The quality of life also guaranteed the city an HDI (Human Development Index) of 0.847, the highest among Brazilian capitals according to the Brazilian Human Development Atlas.

Policies, actions, and local undertakings help the capital of Santa Catarina to anticipate trends in innovation, well-being, urban planning, and social and economic development.

Focused on carrying out projects that connect people with the city and that allow them to save time, moments to take care of themselves, with family and friends, the construction company and developer Milano collaborates for this development of Florianopolis, bringing together proposals such as the city of Milan, for example, businesses, services and gastronomy in the same place.

The project was a pioneer in this segment in Greater Florianopolis and transformed the concept of housing in the region.
